Fueled by a maddening desire to find art supplies without them tumbling on my head when I open the closet, I made a late night run to the hideously evil Walmart- desperate for more storage. $50 ($25 for each tall bookshelf) got me exactly what I needed, affordable storage that makes my supplies readily available.
In Progress. One Bookshelf up, One More to Go:
I was up until the witching hour feverishly constructing book shelves and organizing art supplies. I still have more boxes to sort through and organize but so far the new Art Supply Storage Center is encouraging me to create and resume projects long abandoned (because I couldn't find them!).
I feel guilty over my desperate late-night Walmart purchase, but who knows when Lady Thrifty Lucky would grant me the perfect curio cabinet I craved for storing my art supplies.
[Pictured Above, Humble Beginnings: The dining/craft room the weekend I moved into my apartment 2 months ago.] Was I to live in utter chaos until that magical day? Patiently awaiting a cabinet that may never come?
[Pictured Left, The Hideous and Maddening Clutter of one of my hallway closets, stuffed with Art Stock that needs to be sold and art supplies. The chaos in this photo ain't the half of it]
To punish me for my impatience I'll find the perfect cabinet for a fraction of the funds I paid for my flimsy Walmart book shelves, such is the cruel law of Thrift.

Looks good! I've been hoping for ages to find a really nice vintage pigeon hole unit to display my "stuff" but after no luck I finally decided to get an Ikea Expedit then found an Expedit for one third of the price in Vinnie's, yay!!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I think we have to give in and get the less ideal option to prevent chaos-dementia. Hey, if I find the perfect cabinets I'll still find a use for these bookshelves. I have tons of crap, ur- treasure- to display.
ReplyDeleteSo glad you found your long lost projects! lol! The shelves look great and I like that color on your wall.
ReplyDeleteWow, they look really good. I hate walmart too. But shop there all the time...
ReplyDeleteLooks great and if it work too then it's a total success! Enjoy...
ReplyDeleteLooks great, I think I need to get some of those book shelfs.

I love your new space! My craft area which is a sad corner of my office, a cabinet in the hallway and a mess in the bedroom is so disorganized at the moment. I too long for a neat and tidy space to find everything. And I love the color on your walls. Delicious.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteYou are doing great! My craft room is so crammed and disorganized that I'm working in about 2 square feet of cleared space. As soon as I have no houseguests, I am totally cleaning house! Your wall color is gorgeous, btw. And maybe the cruel law of Thrift won't be so persnickety. I'm sure you'll take the cheap cabinets if you find them!!

Great job. I have what are probably the same or very similiar bookcases from Target for my crafts too. I have 2 tall ones and 3 shorter ones, I wish I ahd bought more tall one as I need more space. Or I guess I could get rid {gasp} of some craft supplies. :)
ReplyDeleteFound you through Make It Yours.

ReplyDeleteGreat job!
Great organization! Love the wall color. Yeah I feel the same about Walmart, I bought some of those shelves and found out the hard way of not storing anything heavy on them.
ReplyDeleteyou did so well organizing, don't feel guilty about purchasing them, they fit into your home! I have the same one, and has transformed it many times over. Your place is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJust discovered you last night and love your feelings about Wally-World. What is sad is that sometimes,I too am forced to go there and I hate to feed that monster. This is why we create and thrift. Good luck on organizing...that is one of my summer projects. Of course, should stop surfing the web...
ReplyDeletelooks great! I am now following you thanks to Welcome Wednesday and it would be nice if you could share back the love here!
ReplyDeleteHappy Welcome Wednesday!
Love the wall colour! Really great.
ReplyDeleteI knew EXACTLY what I wanted for the creative space wall color and luckily found it at Lowes. It's Valspar's "Laguna Green". So dreamy, you want to sink into it like bathing in cool Caribbean waters in the summer.
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain and glory! Mine looks like the jumble of mess, but I dream of being organized one day! Great job, sounds like $50 well spent! Thanks for linking up to We Can Do It Cheaper!

ReplyDeleteYay for Walmart! I need my craft room organized so bad! Thanks for linking up to Hoo's got talent!
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! It is such a great feeling when every thing is organized.
ReplyDeleteEvil Walmart or not, it looks fantastic! I really like your table, btw.
ReplyDeleteSo organized and pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis is EXACTLY how I feel right now. I found this cool corner bench with storage on the inside and a wooden round table in a Chatelaine magazine. It's exactly what I want for our diningroom/craft area, but I can't find what I'm looking for. And yes, I've looked at Walmart. Thanks for sharing. Love the black and white floors and the turquoise walls.
ReplyDeleteLove the new space! And the color of your walls is gorgeous. This gets me itching to reorganize something...hummm, my kitchen is in sad shape right now. :-)
ReplyDeletesometimes we have to settle for cheap and organized, if not aesthetically pleasing :)
ReplyDeleteif it encourages you in your art, so be it...
(visiting from ana's friday archive dive)
i am pretty sure i've already commented on the colour of your walls, but i just love it. and i agree, when my space is organized, i feel like i can jump in and start a project (or dig out an old one) more easily. and shannon's right, sometimes cheap and organized just wins out. it's been about half a year, are you still happy with it?
ReplyDeleteAs much as everyone loves to hate Wal-mart including me at one time. They do some good for society. They hire so many people even in a bad economy. They also work really hard to hire people that other business's consider a risk. There are families with food and shelter because of Wal-mart took a chance and hired them. Can't say I dearly love going there but if you need too, don't feel bad!
ReplyDeletePS I love your new space, its so YOU!!!:)
