Is this homemade, manufactured? It's hard to say. But I love the muted color of the tree trunk, the line design, and the mushrooms that are growing out of all corners of the log like remnants from a psychedelic hallucination.
What Do You Think This Item is?

It's about 8.5 inches long and 4.5 inches high.
Sitting on a small shelf.

I would guess that it's for crackers.
ReplyDeleteHard to tell the size of it... is it large enough to be a shelf for a couple of books maybe? A box of tissues?
ReplyDeleteIt would have been a good idea to include the size! It's about 8.5 inches long and 4.5 inches high so it's relatively small. It's sitting on a small shelf in the picture.
ReplyDeleteI thought it was a business card holder but now that I see the size I am not so sure. Maybe its to hold multiple cards? Like some stores have with their vendors cards on it?
ReplyDeleteits pretty cool looking though. I'd love to use it as a display at a craft/art sale :)
Cool find :)
Moe- I thought of business cards too, but the indentation would hold something about the size of an index card or a little bigger.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it would be amazing to use at future craft and art sales, I'll find a use for it!
I think it's adorable and I think it's for holding a recipe card while you cook...
ReplyDeleteRecipe cards or cookbook?
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteMy guess would be a recipe card holder?
Recipe card holder. My mom had one JUST like it!
ReplyDeleteNo idea what it's for but love it anyway! Great find!
ReplyDeleteAs old as it looks I would think maybe a tape holder. (wow thats a word I haven't used in ages)
ReplyDeleteAnd then maybe its just meant as a decoration, like it had at one time doll's or ceramic figures that went with it. It sort of looks like bench.
This may be a long shot, but my grandmother used to collect salt and pepper shakers back in 50s-80s. From what I remember of her collection, many of the sets had bases that they figurine salt a pepper shakers sat on. Like one set she had was a giant bear and in each of his paws was a fish shaped shaker.
ReplyDeleteSo maybe it was a pair of fairies, Gnomes, or other woodland creatures that have since been lost and this was their base.
Oh, this cracks me up! Is this a play on "shelf fungus"? Shelf fungus, though is wide and flat, like a shelf growing out of the log. They made these fungi look more like phallic. I would have bought it too!
ReplyDeleteWell, I've seen a lot of napkin holders with the whole vintage mushroom theme. But the design of this log can't hold napkins, I'd imagine. I would use it as a nifty paperweight/post it holder. Though I'm not sure that's really the original use of this mushroom log. It's a nice thrifted find, though!
ReplyDeletemy thoughts were along stormy's. but i don't know for sure! now i'm curious!
ReplyDeleteI immediately thought recipe card holder.
ReplyDeleteI don't know what inches are... I mean I can't visualise :) and so with my inability to visualise and google a converstion rate I'm guessing it is a letter holder or recipe card holder. Either way it is super cute!
ReplyDeleteI normally don't very much like knick knacks, but I love this one - it's so unusual!
ReplyDeleteIt would be lovely to display some arty postcards in...
ReplyDeletemaybe recipe cards?
ReplyDeleteI think a recipe card holder, too. Thank you for stopping by my blog, Van! I am happy to meet you and I wish you luck in your new-ish Etsy store! I hope you'll be back to visit, soon!
ReplyDeleteThe latest suggestion I got was that this thing could be a sponge holder! I'm going to try it as a recipe card holder and a sponge holder and see which job it does best.
ReplyDeleteThere's plenty of room on my vintage stove for this to sit looking cute bearing my recipe cards. Thank you for all of the suggestions!
