Her Library Adventure's fun flea market find of the year contest got me thinking. If I had to choose, what would my favorite thrifted find from the year be? I couldn't choose merely one (I bring home tons of stuff!), so here are my Top 3 Favorite Finds of the year:
1) Vintage dinosaur painting print: a thing of beauty, looks just like the irresistible art in kid's biology books. Pictured above. 2) Vintage Owl Cookie Jar: Animated with lots of personality, a lucky find many people try to buy from me when they visit. 3) Mid Century Modern Hutch: A steal at $15.00 from a nearby yard sale.
What are your favorite thrift finds from this year?
Ha ha my brother thrifted a matching owl cookie jar, only he's brown (My brother named him Percy!)And I would kill for that hutch. That may be the find of the century.
ReplyDeleteThe dresser (can't call it a hutch, my British brain just thinks of rabbits) is beautiful, what an absolute steal. I just posted on my favourite find which is linked up to Sophie's. There's anything particularly unusual about a printer's tray, but the makeover I gave it has revolutionised my jewellery storage, so I'm just amazingly in love with it.
ReplyDeleteLiz: That's so cute, I love that my owl's brown twin is out there and named "Percy"!
ReplyDeleteLakota: I was calling it a "china cabinet" for a while before being corrected. I'll have to check out your fav. find linked up over at Sophie's :)
my favourite find of yours is that string art ship. i would try to buy that from you if i lived in your neck of the woods! i think one of my favourite finds of this year is turning out to be a pair of black and plaid boots that i've been wearing a ton since i got back from Scotland. of course, everyone thinks i got them there so it's fun to tell them i paid $5 for them at a thrift shop!
ReplyDeleteAngelika: I was trying to think of a find I use often to choose as a favorite, too. I love thrifted finds you gets tons of daily use from. Your boots sound so cute!
ReplyDeleteI can not believe you got that hutch for $15! And that is why I love yard sales!
ReplyDeleteI've had few amazing finds recently...
2 1930's metal hospital cabinet/ carts recently for $25 (for the pair.) Sold 1 and Kept 1.
And just the other weekend I found a 4 piece Pyrex Cinderella (pink gooseberry) set in excellent condition for $10.00
Nells: I love industrial finds like the metal hospital cabinet/carts you've described. I'm always looking out for them!
ReplyDeleteLove your hutch! My best finds this year have been an American of Martinsville credenza for 30 bucks at the thrift store and a Nessen Desk Lamp that I had to rewire for 20 bucks at an estate sale. It's the one with the white enamel shade. Major score. Oh, and my Last Supper Paint by number (3 bucks!) the missing piece in my PBN collection!
ReplyDeleteSnail: Nice selection of finds!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to meditate on this question, i love your owl cookie jar <3

Love your owl cookie jar - that's just the cutest thing!!!
ReplyDeleteI love my retro juke box radio - it's the neatest thing. I found a few pieces of Pyrex Delphite this year - all for nearly next to nothing!! They are hard to come by for cheap so that makes me happy!!!
Miss Lou: I had to meditate on my decisions, too!
ReplyDeleteSir Thrift-A-Lot: If I found a Nintendo sleeping bad, that would be my favorite! And I'd use it every night ;)
Rae: It's beautiful! I hope I can find one like that one day!
ReplyDeleteJill: Retro juke box radio? I'd love to find one of those, too!
While it wasn't exactly MY find, my best friend bought her wedding dress at the Good Will for $40! It couldn't have fit better and she couldn't have looked more beautiful. Just goes to show, you don't need to spend a fortune to get something special.
ReplyDeleteJessica: I love it when people do big events that are traditionally expensive cheaply :) and I love how 2nd hand items can be more unique and special.
ReplyDelete$15 -- Holy Crap. and I go to a ton of yard sales... Nicely done.
ReplyDelete$15.00 is insane! I've been obsessed with your dinosaurs ever since I saw them posted.
ReplyDeleteI found a 1970s cork lamp recently on the second day of an estate sale towards the end of the day. It was only priced for five bucks and couldn't believe so many people passed it up.
