Thrift Haul: Mod Madness. Mushrooms, Paintings on Velvet, and More!

I was lucky enough to thrift three days this week and yield a plethora of beautiful vintage finds. I'm saving my Tuesday finds for a special post on my experience at our local Goodwill "Pound Store," but here's what I found on Wednesday and Sunday at my favorite flea markets:

I don't have much luck selling adorable vintage jars of any kind at my antique store booths, but this classy set of psychedelic 70s mushroom goodness is so beautiful I took the risk for it!

Next, I scored this beautiful mushroom print Pyrex bowl! I love the speckled finish and blades of grass.

This vintage radio alarm clock really works! It's got a beautiful, atomic-style shape.

Keeping with the sleek atomic theme, wow! Look at this wall mounted wax paper/aluminum foil/paper towel dispenser. It's so Jetsons sleek, I wonder if it's actually a sentient life form from another planet? A Transformer in disguise?!

I'm geeking out over the front and labels too. A beautiful piece overall.

I was on the fence with buying this black cat and pretty vintage tin, they don't seem like things that would sell quickly. But the prices were right, so here they are!

I haven't bought records in a while, but you can't go wrong with the OJs!

The Lakeside Untouchables album is too groovy, them music is good but I'd have bought it for the album art alone.

Behold the epic photograph within! I would love to stage and photograph a scene this amazing one day!

My planter obsession continues with this acquisition! I think this Gargoyle will end up spray painted neon pink. Or black with neon pink eyes? Fun!

I love this vintage children's book, I can't wait to scan the illustrations. I also scooped up some vintage Richard Scary books that I forgot to photograph. I'm going to upcycle the vintage frame into a jewelry display for Art Walk.

This is my third plaid print Aladdin thermos of this kind! The vintage gun ash tray is all-class and will look nice listed with the other novelty ash trays in my collection.

I couldn't resist Vanna Whiting it up a bit to show off the immense size of this beast I scored! It barely fit it in my car! It's not quite my style, but the dramatic composition and highlight/shadows make it such a lovely vintage piece.

Woah, two in one day! I think I like this little piece even better. I'm a tropical creature that fantasizes about living in a mid century modern Gigdet-style tiki hut paradise. I basically want to live in this painting!

I've been using vintage crochet blankets like these to make fun vintage picnic basket sets. This is another Yuko-approved choice!

I really appreciate everyone who's been purchasing from my  Thrift Haul posts! I have to emphasize that everything I buy and share in these posts is for sale. I love it when you take these items off my hands: I give you the best deal possible, package it up with care, and send you a special little surprise with each purchase!

Well, I don't send a surprise this big...and alive. But she sure as hell tries to sneak in every time! If you see anything you like in Thrift Haul posts- or even in my house- (I sell stuff to people almost every time they visit, and I've sold things people have seen in my house tour posts online, too!) send me an e-mail. :)

  4. I can't believe you found that Wynken Blynken and Nod book! That was one of my favorite stories when I was little! I may have to buy it from you. ;)

I love everything else, of course...I always do! I adore the radio especially. And I think the gargoyle would be super cute and super spooky painted black with neon pink eyes. Or maybe yellow eyes. Oooohh....

    1. I think they have security every day. Those vultures will take an eye out for that old junk otherwise! :) I don't compete, I leisurely hunt.

    2. they started using security about four months ago. Before that there were fights. It was crazy

    3. So I've heard. That is...wow. Do people realize how much junk is out there? With all the thrift stores in Jacksonville, it's never worth fighting for. Additionally, buying by weight doesn't necessarily mean big savings depending on what you buy.

  8. OK -just for the record, I think the mushroom canisters are very cool but I know they can be a challenge to sell( why doesn't everyone share our aesthetic?)=) Last week I needed to look for retail space and found one.. BUT it has some major town restrictions- Blah...so the search goes on

    1. I have this theory about jars- perhaps people just don't see the use for them anymore? I can find the prettiest jars alive and they'll just sit on the shelves for months. Even when marked down as low as possible.

  9. What a riot that you have scored three of the plaid Aladdin Thermoses. I recently found one just like it!
