What I Didn't Buy at the Thrift Store...The Triumphant Return |
This Saturday was perfect: a sunny North Florida day with an unseasonably crisp breeze. A thrift adventure down our thrift store laden Beach Blvd and a seaside picnic was a must! This was my triumphant return to thrift stores after hunting at flea markets exclusively. The voices of the items I left behind scream the loudest in the thrift shops. Here's what they had to say:
This post is thanks to my friend Greg's smart phone! I have an un-smart phone. Don't tell I told you, he's sensitive about it.
What have you left behind at the thrifts lately? Which item would you be unable to resist in this post?

The cork pot rest is too cute. I couldnt have left that baby!
ReplyDeleteI did pick up it's two "sisters" (seen here: http://www.thriftcore.com/2012/06/thrift-haul-return-to-thrifts-quality.html )but the big tear on this one made me leave it. It was heartbreaking! ;)

ReplyDeletePyrex and trophies Van. Not sure I would have had the strength to resist.
ReplyDeleteMy hoard of junk to organize is how I resisted...Pyrex is a bit hard to store, although they do look nice just sitting on a counter!
DeleteThey do! And they are now my go-to organizational solution. Dog meds need separation? Vintage Pyrex. Keys? Spare Change? Vintage Pyrex. Planters? Lesser pyrex with a little gravel in the bottom. This only enables me to buy more of course.
DeleteHm...I'm envisioning some fun art market displays with these now, if one had a kitschy kitchen theme and lots of "smalls" to sell.
DeleteI left behind a set of Villeroy & Boch glasses as I thought they weren't that big of a deal. Anyway, I came home and looked them up online and they are selling for like $20 a glass or something like that - they were only $1 a piece at the thrift. Kicking self - when I went back to get them, of course they were not there!
ReplyDeleteHate it when that happens! I do need to replace my unsmart phone with a smart phone so I can research finds while I'm out-and-about. It would pay for itself in due time, I'm sure...
DeleteVan,
ReplyDeleteWhat you say is true about a smart phone...my iphone and I are in love! It's like a magic view-finder, you look through it and see piles of money...it's crazy! And people just walking on by...with their piles of c_ _ p! Unless they know something I don't, hmmm... don't know if I could have left the lamp base though...
I've pondered the same thing from time to time. Things like, "Does she know something about that one-eyed winnie the pooh doll with the stuffing hanging out that I don't?"
DeleteI have a recent obsession with trophies, I don't think I could have resisted those!!
ReplyDeleteThose do present a myriad of fun possibilities...I could hosted my own mock awards ceremony with that many trophies. It's a pre-fab collection!
DeleteI dunno . . . I might have picked up the Pyrex if it was cheap enough. I've got some of those orange/wheat ones in my shop, maybe those would have completed the set. I love thrifting to look for items to complete a set. And Pyrex really sells well, if it's the right pattern. Unfortunately those aren't.
ReplyDeleteA friend of ours took a bowling trophy and tied a bag of corn around the ball, so it's now a cornhole trophy.
And a lady I know uses the tops off trophies to create wine bottle stoppers. I think this was in a magazine recently. Sounds right up your alley, Van.
Sounds like the kind of kitschy crafts I love :D Gotta look into that...
DeleteNice! I like those cork trivets...I almost bought them for myself last week. Is it sad that I can tell which thrift store you are at based on the photos and background? lol
ReplyDeleteHa! I'd be right there with you being able to identify them as well :D
DeleteYour thrift store are much nicer than mine. :)
ReplyDeleteso clean and full!
We have a full spectrum of different types of shops to explore. Luckily, we do have a lot of clean, clear, neat ones!
DeleteI might not have been able to resist the solid blue pyrex covered dish. Depending on the price. I only buy for me. But the trophy tops could have possibilities.
ReplyDeleteYes indeed! Lots of temptation in that little container...
DeleteIs that bear a piggy bank or just some weird bear? Either way, I think I like it.
ReplyDeleteI like it too. I have a black one & it's a bank!
DeleteIt's a bank. I've seen it brown and panda patterns too. I sold a panda one, you can see it here: http://www.thriftcore.com/2011/10/thrift-haul-monster-st-augustine.html
DeleteI wouldn't think twice about buying that blue Pyrex container.
ReplyDeleteThe Autumn Harvest set, depending on price, might have been great for resale! Might have bought it...
I didn't even look at the pyrex prices, will have to think of that next time.
DeleteThe bike definitely the bike! I can see it all tricked out with some fun vintage baskets and a neat bell!
ReplyDeleteI regret not getting the bike for sure. I couldn't fit it in my car but someone with a truck would have got it for me. Grr...
ReplyDeleteI love that cork holder for your pots! soooo amazing!! :)
ReplyDeleteI did end up scooping two more like it- but that one had a dramatic tear!
DeleteI left behind 2 cows in dresses at one Goodwill and saw it at another one a week later. I kinda want them now.
