Thrift Haul: A Few Fun Finds From a Quick Flea Market Romp: Mod Furniture & More

I almost didn't make it to the flea market, I left my wallet behind and was going to take it as a sign from a Higher Power (Optimus Prime, is that you?) that I didn't need anymore crap. No. More. But decided I'd give my will power The Ultimate Test and drive back to The Flea. I'd say I did well on my mission to avoid smalls and bought home only a few "big"(er) items I feel I can sell fast:

I got this stool for a steal, I say! An absolute steal, it's going to my Southern Crossing Antique Mall soon. I knew it would love perfect staged in front of my vanity in the bedroom.

I happened to have the round pillow on-hand already from a previous thrift outing. This is also -------

On the more practical find side, these frames at $2 bucks each saved me money and time getting new ones at the store for some gorgeous art prints I bought during Free Comic Book Day. (Did you go, they have Transformers comics this time!)

And here they are framed with my new prints. Yes they are way off center I have not had time to fix it yet. I'm writing this post with a timer set right now, so busy!

They are awesome hung above the tv, that area needed a new little something. The arts prints were $5.00 each, the frames $2 each. I got myself a nice new "gallery" wall for $14.00. Good deal- can you get even one art print for that at Target? Not likely...

NO. MORE. MUGS! Ever! I have two little boxes full. These guys are from last week, actually. I resisted some beautiful 1970s ones this week. ------->>> On Etsy

And matching my tiki cups is a tropical-like boat scene on velvet in delightful retro frame. I have a seagulls above the sea one in a very similar color and the same shape I will soon pair this with online and in the new booth. ------->>> On Etsy

And I always scoop up a good train case or suitcase when I see one. This one's a little rough but still beautiful, great for staging items, road trips, etc. ------->>> On Etsy

I normally resist these desk organizers but this one had a price I couldn't resist- practically free. Fun piece. ------->>> On Etsy

And I found yet another little shelf, this time in white! This one is going to the antique mall booth soon I believe though they're always fun to have around. ------->>> On Etsy

I have a planned future post all about making a classic wardrobe for yourself while shopping second-hand. I'm bad, all I do is buy little dresses from Goodwill to switch things up- it's not to be "pretty", it's a lazy get-dressed-in-one-step maneuver. This purple Target-brand dress is the latest acquisition, very comfortable.

And I now must rush and make my meals for the day, get to school and finish some stuff, then to work at the kitchen for a called-in shift! Then writing 'til I pass out! Busy but happy, lots of new things going on- fresh experiences are always needed to keep creativity flowing.

  1. Did I hear you say get to school? Did you start? What field did you choose? I love the little stool. I think you should sell the pillow with the stool. It looks like it belongs.

    1. Nope! I wish, haha. Just back from a mandatory counselor appointment they do for people who dropped out of school, I dropped out 2006 and left school a mess. Quite the journey there, still doing research. I have to choose between a fine arts photography course, a media production journalism course (more video-style), a traditional journalism route, or digital media production which is...exactly what I do now, graphic design, writing, and photos for the web. Hmmmm.

Was definitely gonna sell the pillow and stool, they do look like they were meant to be ;)

    2. At least I have some boring pre-req stuff to work on while I soul search on what to take. I'm going for knowledge and may always be self-employed. I can't imagine going back to The Man to be micromanaged, I love being in control on my product.

  2. I really like the raffia ware cups-- those sell pretty well. I also like your "one-step" dressing reference. Very funny!

    1. Ah ha, that's what they were called. Rushed that listing this morning, will correct it. And yep, the secret's out, I wear dresses most days of of pure laziness. Why put together an "outfit" when I can throw a dress over my head and be ready in seconds? :) Researching to remedy that, though :D

  3. I went a little crazy this past week and bought some strange items. I bought some albums....what was I thinking? Just starting to get them listed.....seriously, what was I thinking?!

    1. Haha, I avoid those like the plague now and only buy Stevie/Michael Jackson/Price/Motown/Soul/Disco stuff for my own collection from time-to-time, I have some albums in the car to donate. They do not sell for me. EVER. Ever. Four + years, the only way I sell them is if I mark them down to $1.00. And even then, slow.

    2. Thankfully they were practically free so I figured, What the fuck, why not? Vintage Sesame street, which for whatever reason is a huge search word. I am pretty sure they will not sell, but I thought it was worth a laugh!

    3. Oh wow, wouldn't have thought that. Always worth a try. I bought Alvin and the Chipmunk ones for the same reason years back ;) They are always fun for the album art.

    1. My first thought was literally, "Damn I'd have thought I'd have hidden any sign of that away...wait I don't have any of that anymore..." until I realized you meant the artwork ;) bahaha. I need more pants/shorts from the thrift next but dresses are so easy!

  5. Love that stool and train case. The velvet pic brought back memories. In my living room, growing up, we had a puppy dog velvet pic- a pink and black puppy dog on velvet :)

  7. I have a mug addiction too! I am always seeing great ones and they are so cheap---but I find them hard to sell because the shipping is high (almost 10 bucks to send one coast to coast) relative to the price you can get for a mug. That said, I just sold two of them cross-country, but I had 'em up forever. I passed up several this weekend in an attempt to kick the mug habit :)

    1. I'm kicking it too, man! I have so many beautiful ones that are taking forever to sell. When they do finally move I can move them for a lot sometimes but it's not worth toting them around. ;p No more mugs and tumblers for me, I resist even the most gorgeous ones these days.

  8. I know what you mean about Mugs! I had several just like those and couldn't seem to sell them...so I made them into gifts at Christmas - stuffed with all kinds of goodies - one of the hidden benefits of having extra inventory.

    1. Yep, good idea! I've done the same with inventory in the past.

  10. Van, Hubby and I were thinking of taking a road trip to Florida for a thrifting/sourcing adventure. Do you know of any big flea markets in northern FL? We've already been to the one in Pensacola.

Luckily few years ago I found one in the flea market and now you talked about road trips... great idea! Im gonna bring it with me next week, along with the floral vintage dress I brought from california and mostly im wearing it every day haha

  13. OH! I used to have shelves JUST like those little ones! I love to frame the art my kids make at school--it's roughly the same size so I just pull the old pieces out and slip new pictures in--they make some beautiful pieces!

  14. gorgeous little seat - and your vanity is so cool! if i had more room in here i'd have got one for myself too (they keep turning up frequently recently), but alas small apartments and a baby on the way just says no :) and those prints are really good in the frames too.
